Description
Austin Micro Suture Tying Forceps
Austin tying forceps are a micro suture tying pattern. You can order them with 0.2 or wider 0.8 mm points.
0.2 mm tips
The 0.2 mm tips grip the finest suture used in eye work. So they suit knots under high magnification.
0.8 mm tips
The wider 0.8 mm points hold heavier micro suture. Meanwhile, they still keep a narrow profile in small fields.
A balanced pattern
The arms keep the hand relaxed during long cases. As a result, tying stays steady from the first knot to the last.
Pairing them
Many surgeons use two Austin pairs together, one in each hand. Then they pass the suture between the tips to form each throw. Also, matching tip widths helps both hands feel the same. In addition, the Austin pattern suits surgeons who like a light, balanced instrument in each hand. Meanwhile, the 0.2 mm version pairs well with the finest ophthalmic sutures. So many eye units keep two matched pairs on every microsurgery tray. Also, Austin tying forceps pair well with a matching micro needle holder, which keeps the feel consistent between hands during long anastomoses.
Looking after Austin tying forceps
Flush the Austin tips with water straight after the case. Next, dry them by hand without pressing the points together. Then keep the pair in a micro box with separate slots.
