Description
Arch Bending Pliers
Shaping the arch form takes steady control of the wire. Our arch bending pliers handle square or rectangular wire up to .020″ (0.51 mm). The catalogue notes the design aims at easy handling of that wire, so you can follow the curve of the arch with less fuss.
Shaping the Curve of the Arch
An arch form rarely comes perfect out of the pack. You may need to widen the molars, ease a canine curve or match the patient’s own shape. With this plier, you make those changes in short, even moves.
Square and Rectangular Wire Only to .020″
The stated limit is .020″ (0.51 mm). That covers many square and rectangular wires in daily use. However, heavier wire belongs in a heavier plier, because it can strain the joint and dull the grip.
Matching Left to Right
Symmetry counts in an arch. So after each change, lay the wire on a chart or over the model. Then compare both sides and adjust the shorter side, not the side that already fits.
A Plier for the Bench Too
Many offices pre-form arches at the bench before the visit. This plier works well there as well. In fact, shaping on the model often saves chair time later.
Small Checks, Long Life
- Clean off any debris soon after the visit.
- Lubricate the joint when it starts to feel stiff.
- Look for scratches on the beaks that could mark wire.
Steel, Cover and Ordering
We commission this plier to our specification, and it then passes inspection in the United States. For the steel, we ask for stainless that meets ASTM F899. Should the build ever fail, our offer of three years against manufacturing defects means a fair fix. Expect it non-sterile at delivery; after a wash and a sterile cycle, it can serve you many times. To add torque as well, see our torquing pliers set. Then browse all our ortho instruments or open our FAQ list.
