Description
Alm Retractor
The Alm retractor is a small self-retaining retractor for superficial and small incisions. It comes in 7 or 10 cm, with 4 x 4 teeth.
Two small sizes
The 7 cm size fits the smallest openings, where every millimeter counts. Meanwhile, the 10 cm size gives a little more reach. So a pair of both covers most small wounds.
Teeth options
Both sizes have 4 x 4 teeth, four on each arm. You can pick sharp teeth for a firm grip. Alternatively, blunt teeth suit more delicate tissue.
Typical uses
Surgeons reach for it in superficial work where a larger spreader would crowd the site. Also, it frees the assistant during fine dissection and closure. Then the surgeon can see the whole field.
Choosing between sizes
If you work mostly on small skin incisions, the 7 cm Alm retractor may suffice. However, the 10 cm version covers a slightly wider range. So many teams keep one of each.
Cleaning Alm retractor
Rinse the Alm right after use to keep blood out of the teeth. Next, brush each tooth and dry the joint fully before it goes back in the tray. Finally, keep sharp and blunt models in separate slots so no one mixes them up.
