Sugarman Periodontal Files
After a flap is raised, small ledges and irregular bone margins often remain. A Sugarman periodontal file smooths them with a push and pull stroke, so the surgeon can refine contours without a rotary bur. The supplier catalogue lists these files in its periodontal surgical files group.
Two Pairs: 1S/2S and 3S/4S
Each option is a double-ended instrument, and the numbers name the two ends. The 1S/2S file carries the first pair of working ends, while the 3S/4S file carries the second. The catalogue does not describe how the pairs differ. Therefore, please compare the photos for blade shape and angle before you choose.
Picking the Right Pair
Many periodontists keep both pairs, because different sites call for different angles. For example, one pair may reach interproximal bone more easily, while the other may suit a broader buccal or lingual surface. If you are building a first kit, start with the pair whose ends match the access you need most.
Working With a File
Files remove bone gradually, which helps when only a little reshaping is needed. Also, light, controlled strokes keep the working face clean and effective. Next, irrigate the site to clear debris and check the contour by feel. The amount of recontouring remains the clinician’s decision.
Inspection, Cleaning and Warranty
Both files are surgical stainless steel. The working faces of every 1S/2S and 3S/4S file are examined in the United States before shipment. They come unsterilized, so brush each working face free of residue, then sterilize. Should either pair show a fault from production, it has three years against manufacturing defects behind it.
The steel matches ASTM F899. Browse our implant and periodontal instruments, finish root surfaces with a Kramer periodontal curette, or visit the FAQ page.
