Description
Zoellner Black Ear Specula
Zoellner black ear specula are ear specula with a black finish. Otologists use them under the operating microscope, where a dark surface helps reduce glare.
Why black
A bright steel surface can reflect microscope light back toward the surgeon. A black finish, by contrast, cuts down that reflection. As a result, the view of the eardrum stays calmer during long procedures.
Six sizes and a set
We list 5.5 x 6.5, 6.5 x 7.5, 7.5 x 8.5, 8.5 x 9.5, 9.5 x 10.5 and 10.5 x 11.5 mm. You can also order the set of six. That makes seven options altogether.
In ear surgery
Surgeons place the speculum in the canal and then work through it with micro instruments. For instance, tympanoplasty and stapes surgery both rely on a steady speculum. The two-figure sizes suggest an oval opening, so the fit follows the canal.
Choosing your sizes
If you operate often, the set of six gives you a size for most canals. Otherwise, pick two or three sizes that match your usual patients. Contact us if you would like help deciding.
Caring for your Zoellner black ear specula
Clean the specula gently to protect the black finish. Use a soft brush and a neutral detergent, then rinse well. Dry them completely before sterilization.

Ordering the specula
Each black speculum is sold with a three-year warranty on its finishing and form. Our staff in Atlanta also check each finish by hand before the order ships. A fine suction such as the Zollner suction tube works well through these specula. Also browse our otology and ENT range.
