Description
Zenker Retractor
The Zenker retractor holds tissue back in deep wounds. Its overall length grows with the blade, from 23.5 to 30 cm.
Blade and length
The 35 x 8 mm blade comes on a 23.5 cm body. Then 60 x 12 mm measures 26 cm, and 75 x 12 mm measures 27.5 cm. Finally, 85 x 20 mm runs 29 cm and 100 x 25 mm runs 30 cm.
Deep retraction
Longer blades reach far below the surface. So the surgeon sees the base of a deep wound. Also, the longer body keeps the assistant’s hand out of view.
Narrow and wide
The narrow blades suit tight spaces. By contrast, the 85 and 100 mm blades hold wider tissue. Therefore pick width by the space you have.
A practical set
Many trays pair a short and a long Zenker retractor. Meanwhile, the middle sizes serve average depths. Plus, spare sizes help in busy lists.
Care of Zenker retractor
Clean along the entire blade, paying attention to the tip. Next, rinse under running water and inspect for bends. Finally, dry it and store longer sizes where they will not flex.
