Description
Willet-Martel Tissue & Organ Holding Forceps
The Willet-Martel forceps grasp firm tissue and organs securely. At 19 cm, they reach into the abdomen and pelvis while the hand stays outside the wound.
A secure hold
The jaws grip firm tissue without slipping. Therefore, the assistant can apply steady traction while the surgeon dissects.
Length of the Willet-Martel forceps
Nineteen centimetres suits moderately deep work. In addition, the ratchet keeps the grip constant during long steps.
Typical procedures
In hysterectomy, the forceps grasp the uterus for upward pull. Likewise, general surgeons use them on any organ due for removal.
Technique
Wherever possible, clamp tissue destined for the specimen pot. Then lock at the step that holds, and adjust as dissection proceeds.
Martel or Willet-Martel
The Martel is shorter, at 14 cm. By contrast, this version adds reach for deeper fields.
On the tray
Many abdominal trays pair a holding forceps like this with Babcock and Allis forceps. In addition, that mix covers firm and delicate tissue.
Willet-Martel forceps compared with Allis patterns
Allis forceps grip with fine teeth along a narrow edge. In contrast, the Willet-Martel spreads its hold over a broader area, which suits bulky organs that an Allis would tear under heavy traction.
