Description
Willard (Colibri) Fixation Forceps, 1 x 2 Teeth
Our Willard colibri fixation forceps is the longest Colibri pattern we stock, at 13 cm. Its fine teeth, 0.12 mm in size, sit in a 1 x 2 layout. So it takes a tiny, secure bite on a wound edge while your hand stays well back from the eye.
Why choose a 13 cm Colibri
Extra length helps when the brow is deep or the drape is bulky. Also, it lets the hand rest further from the field. Some surgeons simply like a long tool because it balances against the palm.
The Colibri shape
Colibri forceps set the fine tip at an angle to the handle. As a result, your fingers stay below and away from the microscope view. That makes it easier to see the wound while you hold it.
- Long 13 cm body
- Colibri angled tip
- 0.12 mm teeth, one against two
- Reusable after sterilization
0.12 mm teeth explained
The figure 0.12 mm refers to the very fine tooth size. One tooth meets two, so tissue locks between them. However, the bite stays tiny, which suits corneal and scleral wound edges.
Typical steps
Surgeons often use this kind of forceps to steady a wound lip as the needle goes through. Then it can steady the globe during an incision. Still, tying knots calls for a separate tyer.
Looking after fine teeth
Teeth at 0.12 mm bend easily. For this reason, never let the tips touch the tray floor. After each clean, put the Willard under a loupe, then into its guard.
