Description
Castroviejo (Colibri) Fixation Forceps, 1 x 2 Teeth
The Castroviejo colibri fixation forceps pairs the Colibri tip angle with a 10 cm handle. Its 1 x 2 teeth measure 0.12 mm. Thus it grips a corneal or scleral edge firmly, yet takes very little tissue.
Where the name comes from
Colibri, in fact, is a word for hummingbird. Many say the angled tip recalls its beak, so the name stuck. In any case, the angle keeps your hand out of the microscope’s path.
A mid-length Colibri
At 10 cm, this version sits between our short 7 cm patterns and the long 13 cm Willard. So it suits most hands and most trays. If you are new to Colibri forceps, it is a sensible first pick.
- 10 cm overall

Building a Castroviejo set
Many theaters gather Castroviejo scissors, calipers and needle holders together. Then a matching Colibri forceps completes the set. The shared pattern helps your hands move between tools without a pause.
Using the 0.12 mm teeth
Close the teeth on the very edge of the wound. Next, hold steady while the needle passes. Because the bite is tiny, light pressure is enough, and heavy force only risks a tear.
Checks after each case
First, rinse and brush the tip right away. After that, dry it and look at the teeth with a loupe. If they no longer meet cleanly, take the forceps out of use.
Castroviejo Colibri, ordering
Like every tool in our range, it ships non-sterile. Any Castroviejo Colibri you order comes with three years against manufacturing defects. Behind each Castroviejo tip sits stainless steel to ASTM F899. For a sibling with a different feel, try the Maumenee Colibri forceps. The ophthalmic surgery shop and our FAQ list can help further.
Professional use only. Castroviejo users can review sterilization guidance and delivery options any time.
