West Gouge

Description

West Gouge

Septal surgeons use the West gouge to take out bone along the nasal floor and septum. It has a straight shaft and a curved, hollow edge that works under light mallet blows.

The gouge shape

The blade curves across its width, much like a small scoop. As a result, it removes a rounded strip of bone rather than a flat one. So it suits ridges, crests and spurs inside the nose.

Straight at 15 cm

We offer one size, 15 cm, with a straight shape. Therefore it gives close control in the forward part of the nose. We can also confirm the blade width by email.

A common septal step

For example, a deviated septum sometimes sits on a bony ridge. The surgeon can then use a gouge to lower that ridge. Afterward, the septum often sits closer to the midline.

Pairing it with a chisel

Many surgeons keep a gouge and a chisel from the same designer. So they can switch between rounded and flat cuts without changing grip. The matching West chisel suits that approach.

Caring for your West gouge

Brush the inside of the curve carefully after each use. Then rinse and dry the gouge completely. Finally, sterilize it with the edge covered.
