Description
Urethrotome
An instrument for internal urethrotomy, the incision of a urethral stricture from within the lumen. Supplied here across a range of sizes from 0.8 mm through to 32 mm.
Sizing
Seven sizes are listed. Because urethrotomes vary considerably between patterns, and because the size that suits a given stricture is a clinical decision, we would rather you confirmed the size against your existing instrument than relied on the listing alone. Contact us before ordering if you are matching a set and we will check the configuration for you.
Condition of the blade
A urethrotome is only as good as its cutting edge. A dulled blade tears rather than incises, and tearing is the thing internal urethrotomy is meant to avoid. Inspect the edge before every use and retire the instrument rather than attempting to dress the edge locally.
Care
Handle as a sharp. Reprocess separately from blunt instruments, protect the edge in storage, and dry fully. Any instrument with a visible nick in the cutting edge should be taken out of service.
