Ullerich Aspirating Cannula
The Ullerich aspirating cannula is a manual cannula for drawing fluid or soft material out of the eye by syringe. It comes in two figures, 1 and 2. We keep our description conservative, since figure details can differ.
What aspirating cannulas do
An aspirating cannula connects to a syringe. When you pull the plunger, it draws fluid or soft lens matter through the tip. So it gives you fine, manual control. Surgeons often prefer this feel for small, careful steps.
Figure 1 or Figure 2
The two figures are variants of the same Ullerich pattern. They usually differ in tip shape, bend or length. Please check the product images or ask us which figure suits your technique. Options:
- Figure 1
- Figure 2
- Syringe hub
- Reusable steel
Using the cannula
Attach a small syringe for finer control. Then enter with the tip in view. Pull the plunger slowly and watch the material move. If tissue starts to follow, stop and release. In addition, keep a spare syringe ready, since a full barrel cuts your control.
Choosing between aspirating tools
If you also need inflow, a two-way I/A cannula may suit you better. However, a single aspirating cannula is simple and easy to clean. So many surgeons keep one for quick tasks.
Cleaning the Ullerich bore
Flush the bore at once with water. Afterward, soak it in a mild cleaner and rinse again. Dry it with air before packing, and check that the hub threads are free of residue. Like our other cannulas, it reaches you non-sterile, and each wash plus autoclave run readies it for one more case.
Ullerich cannula warranty
Both figures carry three years against manufacturing defects as standard. The steel meets ASTM F899. For more, visit the ophthalmic cannula range. A related tool is the eye cannula with probe point. Our FAQ page covers orders.
