Description

Tunneling Elevators

Our tunneling elevators are slim instruments for periodontal and implant soft tissue work. They lift the gingiva and the papillae without any incisions. That is the core of the tunnel technique, often used for root coverage and grafts.

What the tunnel technique needs

In a tunnel, you create a pouch under the gum from small entry points. Then you slide a graft into that space. Because you make no vertical cuts, the blood supply stays intact. However, the tissue is thin, so you need slim, gentle tools.

Two patterns, #1 and #2

We offer two patterns, #1 and #2, and each comes singly. Many clinicians keep both, since a tunnel often calls for more than one approach. Try each one on your typical cases, then decide how many of each to stock.

Handling soft tissue with care

Move slowly and keep the tip close to the bone or root. Also, keep a firm finger rest so the instrument does not slip. In addition, watch the papillae closely, since they tear more easily than the rest of the flap.

  • Use light pressure at all times.
  • Advance in short strokes.
  • Check that the tissue moves as one piece.

Where these tools fit in a tray

These are not extraction elevators. Instead, they belong in a perio or implant surgery kit, next to your fine scalers, scissors and suture tools.

Caring for slim tips

Fine tips bend if they hit hard surfaces. So place them in a cassette slot and keep them apart from heavy tools.

Shipping, warranty and links

Expect both patterns non-sterile on arrival; after cleaning and sterilization they rejoin your perio kit. Our specification guides both, the stainless steel satisfies ASTM F899, and inspection happens in the United States. Tunnel tools fall under three years against manufacturing defects through our standard warranty terms. For releasing tissue at the neck of a tooth, see our syndesmotome blades.
