Description
Toennis Dura Dissector
The Toennis dura dissector is a long neurosurgical dissector for separating the dura from the inner skull. Surgeons use it to free the dura before lifting a bone flap and during other cranial steps.
What it does
Before a bone flap comes out, the dura must come away from the bone. So the surgeon slides the dissector between the two layers. That step reduces the chance of tearing the dura when the bone lifts.
A long pattern
We list the dissector at 25 cm. That length gives extra reach compared with shorter dissectors. As a result, it suits deeper work while keeping the hand out of view.
Where it fits
A cranial tray often holds several dura dissectors, such as Penfield and Frazier patterns. The Toennis adds a longer option. Many surgeons pick one pattern as a favorite and keep others for backup.
Choosing a dissector
Think about the depth and angle you prefer. If you need a longer reach than your current tools, the Toennis is a good addition. However, ask us for tip dimensions if you want to compare them closely.
Caring for your Toennis dura dissector
Clean the tip soon after the case, before protein dries on it. Then brush it gently and rinse. Look over the edge for damage. Finally, dry the dissector and place it on a tray that protects the tip for sterilizing.
