Description
Terrier Artery Forceps
Terrier artery forceps are a very small, fine hemostat. They measure just 8 cm.
A very small instrument
The short length gives close control on small vessels.
Fine jaws
The slender jaws suit delicate tissue where larger forceps would crowd the field.
Where it fits
Surgeons use it for fine vascular and plastic work.
Handling
Because the rings are small, many surgeons hold it with the fingertips rather than through the rings. Also, keep several on the field for small bleeders. Then release each one gently to avoid tearing fine vessels. Because the forceps are so small, they sit easily in a crowded field. Also, several can stay on the wound without dragging on tissue. However, their fine jaws suit only small vessels, so keep a larger hemostat nearby for anything thicker.
Reprocessing Terrier artery forceps
Treat the small tips gently in cleaning. Rinse, brush lightly and dry by hand. Then store the forceps in a protective tray.
