Description
Taylor Bone Lever
The Taylor bone lever is a hand-held spinal retractor. Surgeons hook its blade against bone and then lever back the paraspinal muscles, so the lamina stays in view.
How the lever works
The blade seats against the spine while the handle angles outward. Then the assistant pulls on the handle, which moves muscle away from the bone. Because it braces on bone, it holds its place well during laminectomy.
Two blade sizes
We offer a 16.5 cm lever with a 75×30 mm or 100×30 mm blade. The 75 mm blade suits slimmer patients. The 100 mm blade, meanwhile, reaches deeper for larger patients or lower lumbar levels.
Where it fits
The lever complements self-retaining retractors. For example, a surgeon may use one on the side where a frame cannot sit. It also helps at the start of a case before a frame goes in.
Choosing a size
If you operate across many body sizes, stock both blades. Otherwise, pick the depth you meet most often. Tell us about your typical cases, and we will recommend a blade.
Caring for your Taylor bone lever
Wipe off blood and tissue before it dries. Next, scrub the blade tip and the bend with a soft brush. Rinse, dry completely, then sterilize the lever with your spinal set.

Ordering the Taylor bone lever
Your lever gets three-year warranty protection against workmanship defects. Before it goes out, our Atlanta team checks it by hand. The FAQ covers common order topics. Taylor lever steel follows ASTM F899, the surgical instrument steel standard. For a self-retaining alternative, see the Hey lamina retractor. The neurosurgery department page lists every spine retractor we carry.
For trained staff only. Our sterilization and care page explains lever photos and nickel in steel, and you can read the returns guide for return steps.
