Description
Tap Sleeve For Tap
This tap protection sleeve guides a tap and shields soft tissue while threads are cut. It is listed for use with a 2.7 mm tap.
Why use a tap protection sleeve
A tap turning in a wound can catch tendons or vessels. Therefore the sleeve forms a protective tube around it. The tap also stays aligned with the drilled hole.
Sizes listed
The listing gives a 3.5 mm sleeve for a 2.7 mm tap. Please check this against your screw system. We can confirm compatibility before you order.
Who uses a tap protection sleeve
Small fragment and hand surgeons use tap sleeves during screw fixation. Also, foot surgeons use them near tendons. They suit maxillofacial work too.
Technique
Seat the sleeve against the bone over the drilled hole. Then pass the tap through it and turn steadily. Keep the sleeve still while tapping.
Fit matters
Sleeves must match both the tap and the drill hole. Consequently, mismatches cause problems in theater. Ask us if unsure.
