Description
St. Martin Suture Forceps, 1×2 Teeth
The St. Martin suture forceps is a short, light tool for holding tissue while you sew. Its 7cm body sits deep in the hand. At the tip, fine 1×2 teeth catch a wound edge and keep it still, so the needle can pass clean.
How the 1×2 tip takes hold
One jaw carries a single tooth. The other jaw has two teeth that close on either side of it. As a result, the bite locks onto a small fold of tissue without crushing a wide strip. This grip suits corneal and scleral edges, where you want control but little trauma.
Why a short 7cm body helps
A short forceps keeps your fingers close to the eye. That gives fine control under the microscope. For this reason, many surgeons pick a short pattern for work near the limbus, where space is tight.
Checks before each case
- Close the tips and look for a clean mesh of all three teeth.
- Make sure the jaws meet with no gap or side shift.
- Feel the spring; it should open smoothly and return the same way.
- Then look for burrs or bent points under magnification.
Working beside the needle holder
This forceps pairs with a needle holder and a tying forceps. In practice, one hand holds the edge with the teeth while the other drives the needle. Then the same tips can steady the tissue as you tie.
Keeping fine teeth sharp
Small teeth wear if they knock against trays. So store the forceps in a rack or a tip guard. Also clean dried blood from between the teeth soon after use, because it hardens fast.
This pattern ships non-sterile; reuse it freely after a full cycle of cleaning and sterilization. The short St. Martin frame uses stainless steel that follows ASTM F899 for surgical tools. We also back these small teeth for three years against manufacturing defects. Any St. Martin build flaw is ours to fix.
