Description
Stille Hand Drill
The Stille hand drill is a 20 cm manual bone drill of the classic Stille pattern. It drills holes and passes wires without any power source.
A classic pattern
Stille instruments are known for robust, practical design. Additionally, this hand drill follows that tradition. Therefore it handles routine drilling reliably.
Matching bits
We list a set of drill bits made for this drill, from 1.0 mm to 16.0 mm. As a result, one drill covers small pilot holes through larger openings. Ask us if you need help choosing.
Who uses the Stille hand drill
Orthopedic surgeons use it for wires and small holes. Also, outreach teams use it where power is unreliable. Also, it suits teaching and backup roles.
Turning technique
Hold the drill steady and square to the bone. Then turn the crank evenly. Ease off as the bit nears the far cortex.
Low heat
Hand drilling turns slowly, so heat stays low. Consequently, bone around the hole is spared. That is one reason some surgeons prefer it.
Backup to power
When a powered drill fails, a hand drill keeps the case moving. Therefore many theaters keep one ready. Furthermore, the Stille pattern is a dependable choice.
