Description
Standard Trocar
A standard trocar pairs a pointed stylet with a close-fitting cannula. Once the point is through the wall, the stylet comes out and fluid drains through the tube.
Four diameters at one length
Every size runs 18 cm overall. You pick the bore: 3.0, 4.0, 5.0 or 6.0 mm. In general, a fine bore suits a small collection, while 6 mm lets thicker fluid pass.
Where the standard trocar fits
Surgeons use it to drain fluid from a body cavity or to place a drain. It also serves teaching labs well. Because the parts nest closely, the tract stays tight around the cannula.
Points worth checking
Make sure the stylet seats fully before each pass. A loose stylet can catch tissue. Similarly, inspect the cannula tip for burrs after cleaning.
Assembling before use
Slide the stylet into the cannula until the hub seats. Then check that the point projects evenly beyond the cannula rim. After entry, hold the cannula still while you withdraw the stylet, so the tract does not shift.
Standard trocar specification
- 18 cm overall length
- 3.0, 4.0, 5.0 and 6.0 mm diameters
- Pointed stylet with matching cannula
- Reusable; we ship it non-sterile
Reprocessing a trocar
Separate stylet and cannula, then flush the cannula with water. Brush the bore with a sized brush. Dry both parts before reassembly and storage.
Aftercare and support
Before it ships, a staff member in Atlanta views each trocar in detail. We back this trocar for three years against manufacturing defects. Also consider our universal trocar set.
