Snellen Lens Scoop

Description

Snellen Lens Scoop

The Snellen lens scoop is a traditional tool for lifting and delivering the lens. You slide it behind the nucleus, then draw it toward the wound. Because it cradles rather than grips, it moves the lens with little stress on nearby tissue.

Cradling the lens with a Snellen

The scoop forms a shallow cradle at the tip. Once it sits behind the lens, a slow pull brings both out together. Meanwhile, a second tool can press lightly on the globe to help the lens move.

When manual delivery still makes sense

Small-incision methods now lead in many places. Still, manual delivery remains useful for dense or complex cases, and in settings where other systems are not at hand. So a scoop like this one keeps its place.

Snellen scoop quick facts

Main features:

• Smooth cradle that holds the lens gently
• Slim neck for a clear line of sight
• Firm handle with steady balance

Pairing the Snellen with an expressor

Manual delivery works best with two tools. While the scoop cradles the lens, an expressor such as the Hess presses gently on the globe. Together they move the lens out slowly and evenly.

Reprocessing tips for scoops

Lens matter and gel collect inside the cradle. Therefore, rinse the scoop at once, then brush both faces. Dry it well and look for any bend before you return it to the set.

Adding a Snellen to your set

Snellen scoops reach you unsterile, so wash the cradle and sterilize it before use; the Snellen then serves case after case. Snellen steel follows ASTM F899, and every scoop matches our own drawing. A Snellen from Intrace USA carries cover for three years against manufacturing defects. Find more in our eye surgery tool range, or view the Hess lens expressor to pair with it. Questions?
