Snellen Entropium Forceps
The Snellen entropium forceps is a classic eyelid clamp. Surgeons use it in entropion repair and other lid work. It grips the lid between its jaws, so the tissue stays firm. In addition, its pressure helps keep bleeding low. This model measures 10 cm.
An old name, still in use
The Snellen clamp has a long history in lid surgery. Even so, it still earns a place on many oculoplastic trays. Its broad grip makes it handy whenever you need a stable, bloodless lid.
- 10 cm overall size
- Wide jaw that supports the lid
- Helps reduce bleeding at the incision
- Reusable once reprocessed
Setting the Snellen clamp
Seat the clamp so the lid sits squarely between the jaws. Then close it slowly until the lid feels steady. Afterwards, check that the margin sits where you expect.
Choosing a 10 cm lid clamp
Our lid clamps vary in length and jaw shape. The Snellen, at 10 cm, gives a good reach for adult lids. However, if you prefer a smaller tool, the 9 cm Blascovics may suit you better.
Keeping it in service
Clean the clamp as soon as the case ends. Then dry it with care, because water spots can mark the jaws. Also, test that it opens and closes smoothly, and oil the joint only with a product made for surgical tools.
Snellen order and warranty
We ship each Snellen non-sterile. Snellen clamps hold three years against manufacturing defects. Faulty Snellen units never cost you twice. Snellen steel meets ASTM F899. For a smaller pattern, try the 9 cm Blascovics clamp. Our ophthalmic instrument shop lists more lid tools, and the questions page has payment details.
Only for trained medical staff. Snellen users should read our cleaning and sterilization page, and the dispatch page before buying.
