Description
Smith (Mod. USA) Bandage & Clothing Scissors
The Smith bandage scissors are a modified USA pattern for cutting bandages and clothing. As a result, four lengths let each department choose the size that fits its work.
Four lengths
We offer 16, 18, 20 and 23 cm. For example, shorter sizes suit wards and pockets. Meanwhile, the longer sizes suit emergency rooms and plaster work.
The modified pattern of Smith bandage scissors
The blades and handles are shaped for a firm grip and a clean cut. As a result, the scissors handle both light and thick material.
Typical uses
For instance, nurses and paramedics remove bandages and clothing with them. In addition, they cut dressings, tape and tubing.
Safe technique
First, keep the lower blade against the skin and cut away from wounds. Also, lift the material slightly to keep a gap.
Choosing a length
In general, pocket sizes suit daily ward use. On the other hand, 20 and 23 cm suit heavy-duty cutting.
Cleaning
Adhesive builds up quickly on bandage scissors. Therefore, clean them after each use.
Smith bandage scissors in pre-hospital care
Ambulance crews often need to expose an injury quickly while the patient stays still. In that setting, a long pair cuts up a trouser leg or sleeve in a few strokes, which saves valuable minutes.
