Description
Simon Uterine Scoop, Rigid
The Simon uterine scoop is a rigid, sharp, spoon-shaped curette for endometrial curettage. It measures 25 cm overall and comes in six tip sizes.
Spoon-shaped tip
The scoop cups tissue as you draw it along the uterine wall. So it removes and holds material in a single pass. Also, the sharp rim scrapes the endometrium cleanly.
Six sizes
Tips range from 9.8 x 6.8 mm up to 20.0 x 13.8 mm. In between sit 11.6 x 8.3, 13.2 x 10.0, 16.0 x 11.6 and 18.0 x 12.6 mm. Therefore, you can step up in small increments.
Rigid shank
This version has a rigid shank for direct, firm control of the tip. By contrast, a malleable instrument bends to follow the anatomy. Then choose rigid when you want a fixed, predictable line.
Choosing a size
Start with a size that matches the dilated cervix. For example, the smallest Simon uterine scoop fits a modest opening. Meanwhile, the bigger scoops clear a broader strip of lining per pass, which suits a larger cavity.
Reprocessing Simon uterine scoop
Clear the bowl of the scoop straight after use, before anything dries. Next, brush inside and outside the spoon, then rinse under running water. Finally, dry it and guard the sharp rim from contact with other instruments.
