Description
Simcoe Irrigation/Aspiration Cannula
The Simcoe irrigation aspiration cannula is a classic two-way tool for manual cortex removal. One channel brings fluid in, while the other draws cortex out by syringe. So you can clean the capsular bag without a machine.
How the two-way design works
Fluid enters through one port and keeps the chamber deep. Meanwhile, a small aspiration port draws cortex into the tip when you pull on the syringe. Simcoe made this layout popular in extracapsular and manual small incision surgery. It remains useful as a backup when a phaco unit is down.
Pattern features
This listing comes in one pattern, with no size options. Key points:
- Two channels: inflow and aspiration
- Small aspiration port near the tip
- Fittings for a line and a syringe
- Stainless build that tolerates steam
Manual cortex removal tips
Point the aspiration port up toward the cornea at first. Then engage cortex at the edge of the bag and draw gently. Once the strand holds, pull it toward the center before you strip it. Finally, turn the port down only when you choose to polish, because the capsule can catch.
Choosing between I/A cannulas
We list several manual I/A designs. The Simcoe suits surgeons who want a proven, simple tool. In contrast, a double barreled design separates the channels into two tubes. If you are unsure, start with the Simcoe, since many training programs teach on it.
Cleaning both channels
Each channel needs its own flush. First rinse inflow and aspiration lines with water, then with an enzyme cleaner. Next, dry both with air. The cannula leaves our stock non-sterile; after full cleaning and steam, it is ready for repeated cases.
Simcoe I/A warranty and links
This I/A tool has our backing for three years against manufacturing defects in either channel. The stainless meets ASTM F899. For other manual tools, visit our cataract instrument collection. Consider the Gills I/A cannula in 25/23 gauge as a second option. Our FAQ covers returns.
