Shortbent Ligature Scissors

The Shortbent stitch scissors remove skin sutures with short, angled blades. Because the blades bend near the joint, the hand stays off the wound while the tips work flat against the skin.

Short, angled blades

The bend sits close to the pivot, so the blades lie flat along the skin. As a result, the lower tip slides under a stitch without digging into the wound.

Size of the Shortbent stitch scissors

At 10 cm, they fit a dressing pack or a pocket easily. In addition, the short length gives fine control over each snip.

Removing sutures step by step

First, lift the knot gently with fine forceps. Next, slide the lower blade under the stitch on one side of the knot and cut. Finally, pull the suture out toward the wound so the edges are not stressed.

Where they are used

Wards, wound clinics and GP surgeries use them during suture removal. In theatre, they also trim suture ends after tying.

Shortbent or Northbent

Both patterns angle the blades. However, the Shortbent bend is shorter and more compact, which some nurses prefer for small wounds.

Hygiene between patients

Each patient needs a clean, sterile pair. Therefore, many clinics keep several pairs so lists are never held up by reprocessing.
