Shapleigh Curette

The Shapleigh curette is a slender ear curette with a small working tip. Clinicians use it to remove cerumen and loose debris from the external auditory canal.

Design for wax removal

The tip reaches behind wax and lifts it forward. The curved profile also keeps the shank out of the line of vision. As a result, the user can watch the tip the whole time.

In the ear clinic

Doctors often clear the canal before otoscopy, audiometry or fitting a hearing aid. For instance, a nurse may use a Shapleigh pattern to free hard wax after softening drops. The curette also fits neatly into a small ear tray.

Caring for your Shapleigh curette

Clean the tip while wax is still soft. Next, wash the whole curette in a neutral detergent and brush the tip. Dry it thoroughly, then sterilize it in a pouch or tray.
