Description
Sebileau Elevator
The Sebileau elevator is an 18 cm instrument with a narrow 5 mm tip. It lifts periosteum and soft tissue in tight spaces, such as the face and small bones.
A narrow working end
A 5 mm tip enters small gaps that a broad blade cannot. Therefore it suits detailed dissection around foramina and fracture edges. The narrow end also gives good visibility.
Background
Pierre Sebileau worked in head and neck surgery, and the pattern still serves that field. However, orthopedic teams also use it on small bones. So it is a versatile addition to many trays.
Who uses the Sebileau elevator
Maxillofacial, ENT and hand surgeons use it most. It also helps in foot surgery around small joints. In addition, it can free soft tissue during plate removal.
Using the tip
Place the tip on bone at the edge of the tissue. Then lift gently while keeping contact. Short movements keep the layer intact.
Around nerves and foramina
Narrow tips let the surgeon clear bone around a nerve exit without disturbing it. Therefore the Sebileau suits work near the infraorbital nerve and similar exit points. Gentle movements remain key.
