Description
Williger Elevator
The Williger elevator is a periosteal elevator best known from oral and facial surgery. Here it comes in 15 cm and 18 cm lengths for fine bone work.
A familiar pattern
Fritz Williger worked in oral surgery, and several tools carry the name. Furthermore, this elevator lifts mucoperiosteum and periosteum cleanly. Therefore it suits procedures where flaps must stay intact.
Two lengths
The 15 cm version is compact for the mouth and hand. Meanwhile, the 18 cm version reaches deeper areas. Besides, both have the same refined tip.
Who uses the Williger elevator
Oral and maxillofacial surgeons use it to raise flaps. Also, small-joint surgeons in the foot use it near the toes. Additionally, it suits facial fracture repair as well.
Gentle lifting
Start the tip at the incision line. Then advance under the tissue with the edge on bone. Short strokes keep the flap whole.
Raising a full flap
Oral surgeons often raise a full-thickness flap before bone work. So the tip must stay under the periosteum the whole time. With practice, the Williger lifts the flap in one smooth layer.
