Description
Schott Adult Eye Speculum
The Schott adult eye speculum holds the lids apart, so the field stays clear while you operate. Its listed size is 14 cm, and it suits adult patients. Use it for surgery or procedures where steady exposure matters.
Sized for adult lids
Adult lids are longer and often firmer than a child’s. A speculum made for them spreads the lids without slipping. So the Schott keeps the field open through long steps, such as a full cataract case.
What the 14 cm size means
The 14 cm figure is the listed overall size of this pattern. It is larger than many compact specula in our range. So check the photo to see the frame and arms before you choose.
Placing the Schott speculum
A smooth insertion keeps the patient calm:
- Ask the patient to look down
- Slip the upper arm under the top lid first
- Then ease the lower arm under the bottom lid
- Open only as far as the case needs
Comfort and pressure on the globe
Too much spread can press on the eye and raise pressure inside it. Therefore, open the lids just enough for the view you need. Also check the lids now and then during long cases.
Schott care between lists
After each case, rinse the frame and brush any joint or bend. Then dry it fully before storage. Also look along each arm for burrs, since a rough spot can rub the lid margin.
Ordering the Schott adult size
The Schott comes unsterile; wash and sterilize the Schott frame before use, and it then holds lids open for case after case. Schott steel meets ASTM F899. On every Schott, our warranty lasts three years against manufacturing defects. Schott buyers can see all eye specula and ophthalmic tools, or compare the 15 cm eye speculum.
