Description
Scalpel Handle #3
The scalpel handle #3 is the fitting for the small blade range, #10 to #15. Surgeons, dentists and veterinarians use it for fine incisions, and this listing gives you eight lengths to choose from.
Choosing among eight lengths
Short handles of 11 to 12 cm give close control for oral and skin work. Meanwhile the 13.3 cm and 16 cm options add reach without losing much feel. For deep fields, the Fig.3L runs to 21 cm. In addition, the Fig.3G at 12.7 cm carries a printed scale along the handle, so you can check a measurement without reaching for a ruler.
Which blades fit
A #3 fitting accepts the #10, #11, #12 and #15 blades, along with their variants. However, it will not hold the larger #20 series, which needs a #4 handle instead. Many clinics keep both handles, because each blade shape suits a different task.
Care of a scalpel handle #3
Take the used blade off with a remover before cleaning. Next, brush the fitting groove under running water and inspect it for bends. Finally, dry the handle fully before it goes into the autoclave pouch.
A handle for each station
Many practices keep more than one #3 on the tray. For example, a short 11 cm handle suits suture removal, while a 16 cm handle helps in deeper fields. Also, the graduated Fig.3G doubles as a quick measure for lesion size. Since the prices differ by length, you can mix sizes without paying for reach you never use.
