Description
Sautter Orbit Spatula
The Sautter orbit spatula is a 14.5 cm tool for holding back tissue during orbital work. Its flat, smooth blade keeps fat and soft tissue out of the way. As a result, you gain a clearer view of the deeper field.
Why orbital cases need a long spatula
The orbit is deep and narrow. A short tool would leave your hand in the way. At 14.5 cm, however, the Sautter gives reach while your fingers stay outside the field.
Retracting with a flat blade
A flat blade spreads pressure across a wide area. So it holds tissue back without pinching or tearing it. Also, the smooth surface slides into place easily, then stays put with light hand pressure.
Typical Sautter uses
Surgeons may use it for:
- Holding orbital fat away from the field
- Protecting tissue while another tool works
- Gentle exposure in enucleation or orbital cases
Sautter handling in the orbit
Place the blade gently, then let it rest against the tissue. Avoid levering hard on the orbital rim. Instead, ask an assistant to hold it steady while you work with both hands.
Care for a long orbital blade
Long blades can bend if stored under heavier tools. Therefore, keep the spatula on top or in its own slot. After use, scrub both faces and dry them, since a long surface holds more fluid.
Ordering the 14.5 cm spatula
The Sautter ships unsterile; after cleaning and an autoclave cycle, the long Sautter blade returns for later orbital cases. Sautter steel meets ASTM F899, and the blade follows our own drawing. On the Sautter, our warranty spans three years against manufacturing defects. Orbit surgeons can browse other eye and orbit instruments, or see the Wells spoon used in similar sets.
