Description
Rotter Ligature Needle
The Rotter ligature needle passes ligatures around deep vessels in large fields. At 25 cm with left and right versions, it suits deep pelvic and abdominal work.
Handed curves
The left and right versions mirror each other. As a result, the surgeon can approach from either side while keeping a natural wrist position.
Length of the Rotter ligature needle
Twenty-five centimetres reaches deep into the pelvis. Meanwhile, the handle stays comfortably outside the wound.
Typical procedures
Pelvic and abdominal surgeons use it for deep vessels. For instance, it helps ligate vessels during a hysterectomy or bowel resection.
Technique
Pass the curve gently behind the vessel. When the eye appears, thread it and draw back. Then tie the ligature.
Falk or Rotter
The Falk is 23 cm, while the Rotter adds two centimetres. Therefore, many teams keep the Rotter for their deepest cases.
Rotter ligature needle for large patients
Body size changes the depth of every vessel. For that reason, teams caring for larger patients often keep the Rotter on standby, since its extra length avoids a stretched, uncomfortable reach.

Before you check out
Rotter needles leave us with three years against manufacturing defects, left and right alike. Each needle undergoes a careful once-over by Atlanta staff ahead of shipping. Smaller clinics stock a second needle to avoid delays. To learn about instrument steels, check ASTM F899. View the entire general surgical range for other sizes.
