Description
Richter Retractor
The Richter retractor is a self-retaining retractor about 16.5 cm long. Once set, it keeps the wound open on its own.
Why self-retaining
A self-retaining tool frees the assistant from holding a blade for long stretches. So the team can put those hands to better use. Also, the opening stays even through the case.
Length
At about 16.5 cm, it sits between our smaller and larger patterns. Therefore, it suits wounds that need moderate reach. However, compare it with your current tool if you are replacing a worn or lost one.
In the tray
Many general sets carry a few self-retaining patterns in different sizes. Then the surgeon can pick the right one for each wound depth and width. Plus, a spare helps when one goes out for repair or inspection.
Choosing between patterns
The Richter retractor is one of several self-retaining patterns we carry. For example, the Weitlaner and Gelpi serve similar hands-free roles. So tell us your usual case type if you want advice.
Reprocessing Richter retractor
Open the arms wide and rinse off blood before it dries. Next, work a nylon brush into every joint and seam. Finally, air-dry it on a towel and store it closed on a rack.
