Description
Randall Suction Biopsy Curette
The Randall suction curette gathers an endometrial sample by drawing tissue into a hollow tube. It measures about 23 cm long in a 4.0 mm size.
How suction sampling works
Suction draws endometrial tissue into the hollow curette during sampling. Then you flush the specimen out into a container for the lab. So one pass can gather material from several areas of the cavity.
The 4.0 mm size
This curette has a slim 4.0 mm size, the narrowest of our endometrial curettes. Its narrow profile suits office sampling without a trip to the operating room. However, confirm that it fits your suction tubing before first use.
Length
At about 23 cm, the curette reaches the fundus through a speculum with room to spare. Plus, it stays manageable in one hand while you control the suction. Meanwhile, the other hand stays free for a tenaculum.
Pairing with a tenaculum
Most clinicians steady the cervix before passing a Randall suction curette. So a tenaculum and sound usually sit on the same tray. Also, the sound helps you judge how far to advance the tube.
Reprocessing Randall suction curette
Flush the hollow lumen with water immediately so tissue cannot dry inside. Next, run a narrow brush through its full length until the water runs clear. Finally, dry the lumen with forced air before storage.
