Description
Quinby Scissors
Trimming gingiva and small tags of soft tissue calls for short, controllable blades rather than general operating scissors. Quinby scissors are a gum scissors pattern listed in that section of our supplier catalogue. We offer two versions, Straight and Curved. Each pair is opened, closed and test cut by our United States inspectors before we ship it.
What the Quinby Pattern Is For
Gum scissors are compact so the tips can work close to the teeth. Clinicians use Quinby scissors to refine flap margins, remove tissue tags and trim sutures in tight areas. In addition, a short pattern gives a finer feel than longer operating scissors. That control matters when only a millimetre or two of tissue needs removing.
Straight Blades or Curved Blades
The Straight version gives a clean, direct cut along a line you can see. Therefore, it suits anterior work, open sites and suture removal. The Curved version, on the other hand, bends the blades so they follow the arch and the gingival contour. As a result, you can trim around a tooth without twisting your wrist. If your work covers both regions, pairing the two is sensible. Otherwise, check the two photos and choose the blade shape you reach for most.
Steel, Sterility and Warranty
Quinby scissors are stainless steel. They leave our stock non-sterile, so open the joint, clean between the blades and autoclave them before use. Also, keep the tips protected in storage to preserve the edge. Our coverage on this pair lasts three years against manufacturing defects, and it begins at purchase.
The steel used here is described by the ASTM F899 standard. You can find more periodontal and surgical scissors under Maxillofacial Surgery Instruments. To hold tissue steady while you trim, the Russian Model Tissue Forceps are a sensible match. For order questions, read our FAQs.
