Description
Potts-Smith Cardiovascular Surgery Scissors
Potts-Smith scissors help surgeons extend an arteriotomy with a clean, controlled cut. Options include 18 or 19 cm lengths and three blade angles.
Extending an arteriotomy
After the first incision, the surgeon needs to lengthen the opening along the vessel. So one blade goes inside while the other stays outside. Then each cut follows the vessel line.
Standard or with probe
The standard version suits most vessel work. Alternatively, the probe version adds a probe for guiding along the lumen. Choose it if your surgeons prefer that extra guidance.
Angle choices
Pick 25, 40 or 60 degrees to suit the approach. Also, steeper angles help when the vessel runs across the field. Many teams stock Potts-Smith scissors in two angles.
Where they belong
Cardiac and vascular sets usually hold at least one pair. Meanwhile, peripheral bypass cases may call for a second angle. Plus, a spare avoids delays if a pair goes for repair.
Cleaning Potts-Smith scissors
Handle the fine tips gently and keep them closed when not in use. Next, clean around the probe carefully if your pair has one. Dry the scissors fully, then store them in a slot that shields the tips.
