Politzer Paracentesis Needle

The Politzer paracentesis needle is a fine otology instrument for opening the tympanic membrane. Surgeons use it for paracentesis and myringotomy when fluid or pus sits behind the eardrum.

Purpose of the needle

The narrow tip makes a small incision in the eardrum. Then the surgeon can release fluid or place a ventilation tube. Because the membrane is thin, a fine, controlled tip matters more than force.

Straight or curved

We offer two versions, both 15 cm long. The straight shaft gives a direct line to the membrane. The curved shaft, in contrast, moves the hand away from the view through an ear speculum or microscope.
