Description
Petri Pterygoid Retractor
The Petri pterygoid retractor exposes the inner side of the mandibular ramus. It holds the soft tissue near the pterygoid region away from the bone during jaw surgery.
Shape and length
It measures 23 cm overall. Its blade curves to sit behind the ramus. As a result, it protects the soft tissue on the inner side.
Fiber optic choice
Ordering it with light adds a fiber optic carrier. Consequently, light reaches the deep inner ramus. Meanwhile, the plain version suits teams who prefer headlights.
Where the Petri pterygoid retractor is used
Maxillofacial teams use it when the saw works on the inner ramus. For instance, it shields the soft tissue during a sagittal split. It also helps in some fracture cases.
Why it protects
Important nerves and vessels sit near the inner ramus. Therefore, a blade shaped for that space keeps them out of the way. In addition, it gives the saw a clear path.
Handling
Slide the blade along the bone behind the ramus. Then hold firmly but without levering. Also, check the lip corner often for stretching.

Our checks on the retractor
A team member in Atlanta inspects each retractor by hand before shipment. Your protection on each Petri retractor spans three years against manufacturing defects from first use. Surgeons often add the sigmoid notch pattern. The FDA lists ASTM F899 for surgical steels. Matching items appear in the general surgical category. With a general query, see our customer FAQ.
For surgical teams only. Page images can vary a little, and the steel holds nickel; read the care and sterilization guide to learn more. Use the shipping terms for transit details.
