Description
Periosteal Raspatory handle From Artificial Wood
This wood-handle periosteal raspatory lifts the periosteum away from bone before a cut or a plate. Its artificial wood handle gives a full, steady grip for firm strokes.
What a raspatory does
The periosteum is a tough membrane on the outside of bone. Before surgeons cut or fix bone, they often strip it back. So a raspatory, with its flat, sharp-edged blade, pushes the membrane off in one clean layer.
Six blade versions
At 18 cm you can pick a 3 mm delicate tip, a 6 mm round tip or a 6 mm wide tip. Meanwhile, a 14 mm blade comes at 19 cm or 20 cm. The broadest option is 19 mm at 20 cm.
Choosing a wood-handle periosteal raspatory
Narrow tips suit hand, foot and facial bones. By contrast, the 14 and 19 mm blades cover long bones and the pelvis. Furthermore, many trays hold one narrow and one wide version.
Stroke technique
Start at a cut edge of the periosteum. Then slide the blade under the membrane, keeping it flat against the bone. Short, firm pushes work better than one long sweep.

Blade and handle upkeep
Scrape tissue off the blade before it dries, then wash the instrument. Pay attention to the seam where steel meets the artificial wood. Dry it fully and avoid long soaks.
