Description
Payr Ligature Conductor
The Payr ligature conductor passes a ligature around a vessel, duct or pedicle. The curved tip slips behind the structure, and an eye near the tip carries the thread through.
How a ligature conductor works
First, the surgeon threads the ligature through the eye. Then the curved tip passes behind the vessel. Finally, the thread is caught and the conductor withdrawn.
Size of the Payr ligature conductor
At 22 cm, it reaches vessels in the abdomen and pelvis comfortably. Meanwhile, the handle stays well outside the wound.
Typical procedures
General surgeons use it to ligate vessels before division. In addition, it helps pass tapes around ducts. It also suits pelvic surgery.
Blunt tip
The rounded tip separates tissue gently as it passes. Consequently, it rarely damages nearby structures. That makes it safer than a sharp needle.
Choosing a conductor
Schmieden, Konig and Brunner conductors offer other curves and lengths. Besides, many trays carry two or three patterns.
