Paufique Keratoplastic Knife
The Paufique keratoplastic knife is a fine hand blade for corneal surgery. The Paufique name is often linked with lamellar keratoplasty, where the surgeon works within the layers of the cornea. We offer one standard version.
Lamellar work in brief
In lamellar keratoplasty, the surgeon replaces only part of the corneal thickness. So the blade must work along a plane inside the cornea with fine control. A slim hand knife can help with this kind of dissection. Many surgeons also use it alongside spatulas and fine forceps, so the knife is one part of a wider lamellar set.
Holding the Paufique blade
Use a light pen grip and brace your hand on the brow or drape. Then make short, shallow strokes. Also keep the blade flat to the plane, because a steep angle can cut too deep.
Paufique or Barraquer?
We also list a Barraquer keratoplastic knife. Both are fine steel blades for corneal work. However, blade shape differs, so match the pattern to your surgeon’s method. If you are unsure, ask us before you order.
Paufique pre-case checklist
- Edge looks bright and even under a loupe
- Tip shows no bend or chip
- Handle sits clean and dry
- A blade guard stays on until use
Looking after the Paufique edge
Wipe the blade gently, moving away from the edge. Next, dry it and store it with a guard. Finally, plan regular sharpening checks, since fine edges wear with use.
Paufique knives arrive non-sterile; cleaning and sterilization let you reuse the Paufique blade across many cases. Its steel follows ASTM F899. Paufique buyers get Intrace cover lasting three years against manufacturing defects; Paufique edge wear from use falls outside it.
