Description
Park-Maumenee Eye Speculum
The Park-Maumenee eye speculum is an 8 cm lid holder for anterior segment surgery. It belongs to the Park family of specula, which surgeons often choose for wide, stable exposure. Use it when the case needs a steady field from start to finish.
The Park family of specula
We carry several Park designs, including the Park Guyton. They share a sturdy frame and a focus on steady exposure. The Maumenee variant adds its own detail to the arms or blades, so compare the photos side by side.
Maumenee and corneal work
A. Edward Maumenee was a leading figure in corneal and cataract surgery. Tools linked to his name often aim at clear, wide access to the cornea. So this speculum suits corneal and cataract cases well.
Setting up the Park-Maumenee
A smooth setup:
- Insert the upper arm, then the lower
- Open slowly until the cornea is in full view
- Check that the frame clears the drape and scope
Long-term care of an 8 cm frame
Larger frames have more surface to clean. Therefore, brush every face and joint, rinse well and dry. Then check the arms for even closure. With that care, the speculum should serve for many years.
Maumenee speculum and the microscope
A wide frame must still leave room for the scope and drape. So check the clearance once the speculum is in. If it crowds the field, shift it slightly toward the outer corner.
Ordering the Park-Maumenee
