Description
Oehler Dissecting Forceps, Tungsten Carbide
Oehler forceps are a toothed dissecting pattern with tungsten carbide inserts. They come in seven lengths from 14 to 30 cm.
1:2 teeth
The single tooth on one side meets two on the other. So the grip holds skin and fascia securely.
Carbide inserts
The inserts resist wear much better than plain steel. As a result, the teeth stay sharp for longer.
Seven lengths
The 14 to 18 cm sizes suit superficial work. Meanwhile, the 20 to 30 cm sizes reach into deep cavities.
Picking lengths
Most teams keep one short and one long Oehler pair. Then they add a middle size for general closure. Because the carbide lasts, the set stays reliable for a long time. In addition, the Oehler pattern has a slightly broader tip than a standard tissue forceps. Meanwhile, the carbide teeth hold skin, fascia and muscle without slipping. For example, a general surgery tray might carry a 16 cm pair for closure and a 25 cm pair for deep layers. Also, the Oehler forceps come in more lengths than most carbide patterns, which lets a hospital standardise on one design across its trays.
Cleaning Oehler forceps
Rinse the Oehler teeth soon after surgery. Next, brush across the carbide and dry the forceps. Then store the long sizes flat to protect the tips.
