Description
Ochsner Mod. Martin Trocar
The Ochsner-Martin trocar drains fluid from a cavity through a short puncture. A sharp stylet enters, then a cannula carries the fluid out.
Seven sizes
We stock 8, 10, 12, 14, 16, 18 and 20 Fr. Small sizes suit thin fluid. By contrast, 18 and 20 Fr handle thicker material.
Using the Ochsner-Martin trocar
Make a small skin cut first. Then push the stylet through the wall with control. Afterwards, remove the stylet and let the cannula drain.
Clinical settings
General surgeons use it for abdominal and pleural drainage. Gallbladder and cyst drainage also call for it. Moreover, most trays carry a few sizes, chosen to suit the cases a unit sees most often.
Choosing a gauge
Match the gauge to the fluid and the drain you plan to place. In addition, a wider bore drains faster. However, a fine bore leaves a smaller puncture.
Ochsner-Martin trocar sizes
- 8 to 20 Fr in seven steps
- Sharp stylet and cannula
- Reusable steel
After use
Withdraw the stylet and run water through the cannula. Clean the lumen using a matching brush. Let both pieces dry fully before they go to the steriliser.
Why we check your trocar
Any trocar gets a hand inspection by our Atlanta team before it ships. Our standing warranty covering this trocar lasts three years against manufacturing defects from delivery. Many hospitals keep one per tray to avoid delays. Searching for a formal quote? Message us and we will check. Also worth a look is our standard trocar. Our questions page walks through payment and delivery. Scan the rest of our general surgery section for other sizes. To learn about steels for surgery, visit ASTM F899.
For trained hands only. Shipping times appear on the delivery policy. Photos may not match every option. Also, the steel holds nickel; read the reprocessing guide.
