Description
Nicola Curette, Malleable
The Nicola curette is a malleable curette for scraping and removing soft tissue. Neurosurgeons use it in deep, narrow approaches where a bendable shaft helps them reach the target.
The value of a malleable shaft
Some targets sit around a corner from the approach line. Therefore the surgeon can bend the shaft to angle the tip toward them. Then the curette scrapes tissue away in small, controlled passes.
Size and cutting options
We offer the Nicola curette at 20 cm with a 6.5 mm tip. You can choose a standard version, a left cutting version or a right cutting version. The side versions let the surgeon work toward one side without twisting the wrist.
Where surgeons use it
Curettes of this kind also appear in transsphenoidal and skull base sets. For example, the surgeon may use one to remove soft tumor tissue in a confined cavity. It also helps clean up tissue at the edges of a resection.
Choosing a direction
First, think about which side you usually approach. Next, decide whether a standard curette covers your needs or a side-cutting version would save effort. Many sets include all three for flexibility.
Caring for your Nicola curette
Flush debris from the cup straight after the case. Then clean it with a small brush and neutral detergent. Straighten any bend gently before storage, dry the curette well and sterilize it.
