Description
Model USA Dressing Forceps
Model USA dressing forceps follow the American thumb forceps pattern. They come in eight lengths from 12 to 31 cm.
Serrated tips
Fine cross serrations hold gauze and dressings without tearing them. So the forceps work well for packing and wound care.
Standard or narrow
The regular width covers routine dressing changes. By contrast, the narrow version gives a slimmer tip for smaller openings, from 12 to 15.5 cm.
Eight lengths
Short sizes suit the dressing trolley. Meanwhile, the 25 and 31 cm sizes reach deep cavities and body openings.
Where they fit
Clinics often keep a 14.5 cm pair for routine dressings. Then a 21 or 25 cm pair handles packing in deeper wounds. Because the tips hold without piercing, nurses use them for gauze all day. In addition, the narrow sizes suit small wounds and children, because the slim tip enters a small opening easily. Meanwhile, the 18 cm size makes a good all-round theatre forceps. So a ward can stock two or three lengths and cover almost every dressing task.
Cleaning Model USA dressing forceps
Flush the serrations after each dressing so no gauze fibres stay trapped. Next, dry the long arms with a lint-free cloth. Then lay the Model USA forceps flat in the tray to keep them aligned.
