Description
Middeldorpf Retractor
The Middeldorpf retractor has a hollow handle and comes in six blade sizes. General and abdominal surgeons use it to hold tissue back during open cases.
Small blades
The 14 x 17 mm blade sits on a 21.5 cm instrument. Then 20 x 22 mm measures 22 cm, and 26 x 30 mm measures 23.5 cm. So the small sizes suit shallow openings near the surface.
Large blades
The 45 x 45, 45 x 50 and 55 x 70 mm blades each sit on a 27 cm instrument. Because they run longer, they reach deeper into the abdomen. Also, their wide faces hold back more tissue at once.
Hollow handle
A hollow handle gives the assistant a broad, comfortable grip. However, it also needs careful cleaning on the inside. Therefore follow the care steps below after every case.
Choosing sizes
Pick a small Middeldorpf retractor for superficial layers and short incisions. Meanwhile, a large one handles the abdominal wall in bigger wounds. Plus, a mix of two sizes covers most general cases.
Cleaning Middeldorpf retractor
Flush the hollow handle with water so no fluid sits inside. Next, brush the blade and rinse again until the water runs clear. Finally, let the handle drain and dry completely before sterilizing.
