Description
Micro Forceps
Micro forceps reach deep fields under the microscope. They come in 18.5 and 22.5 cm lengths.
Tip choices
Sharp tips pick up fine membranes. Meanwhile, blunt tips hold tissue without piercing, and the 18.5 cm size also has a 30 degree sharp tip.
Two lengths
The 18.5 cm size suits most microsurgery. By contrast, the 22.5 cm size reaches deep neurosurgical fields.
A light touch
The arms need little pressure to close. So fine movements stay controlled.
Setting up a tray
Many neurosurgeons keep one sharp and one blunt pair. Then they add the 30 degree tip for angled work. Also, the longer size helps when the working channel runs deep. In addition, the blunt tips suit holding cottonoids and soft tissue during neurosurgery. Meanwhile, the sharp tips lift arachnoid and fine membranes. So a neuro tray often carries both, plus a 30 degree pair for angled work. Also, the micro forceps balance well in a pencil grip, so small finger movements translate directly into movement at the tip. That matters most at high magnification.
Reprocessing micro forceps
Flush the micro tips with clean water after each case. Next, dry the forceps and check the points under a lens. Then store them with guards on the tips.
