Description
Michel Clip Forceps
The Michel clip forceps are the classic tool for Michel wound clips. One end applies the clips, while the design also helps lift them out after healing.
A classic pattern
Gaston Michel introduced metal skin clips over a century ago. Since then, the forceps carrying the Michel name have stayed in use with only small changes.
Size of the Michel clip forceps
At 12 cm, the forceps are short and light. Therefore, they suit most skin incisions, from the neck to the abdomen.
Typical closures
Thyroid, breast and abdominal surgeons use clips for a quick, neat closure. For example, a thyroid incision often heals with a fine line after clipping.
Technique
Evert the skin edges with fine forceps. Then place each clip across the line and squeeze. Space clips evenly along the wound.
Original or modified
The modified Michel adds a firmer clip seat. By contrast, the original keeps the classic feel. Also, both suit standard Michel clips.
Removing clips with the Michel clip forceps
Removal usually takes place on the ward after the wound has sealed. Slide the lower jaw under the clip, squeeze gently, and the prongs lift out of the skin together.
